PebblePad MiniBash 2022

Today I attended the first MiniBash post-pandemic since the last one, which was held and visited in 2019.  A brief summary with some notes:


  • Welcome and introductions

  • Expert Session 1: University-wide initiatives
    • Ruth Payne, University of Leeds - academic personal tutoring
      • PebblePad as a new ePortfolio system and personal tutoring initiative - what they wanted, what they did, what they achieved
      • "Action plan:
        • Introduce PebblePad to provide a space for reflective, student-led personal tutoring
        • Introduce learning analytics for students and personal tutors to use
        • Deliver across institution in September 2021"
      • "3 principles of the tutoring workbook:
        • The workbook should promote reflective practice (not easy for all students)
        • Students should be able to work through the content at their own pace
        • Students should be asked to contribute to toe agenda of personal tutorials
        • Student-led to improve tutee engagement

      • External assessor support – how to make this accessible to them before they get workbooks, as can only access the guidance in workbook once given access and got it.

          • Focused Learning Adviser training on what they needed to know to monitor and assess student work.
          • Introduce deadlines and guidance to scaffold student evidence collection and submission process."
            • Training I can offer staff on what to monitor and check, as with students on where to access feedback etc
        • "Model the end-to-end student/staff workflow and scaffold journey"

    Overall it was great to reconnect in-person and get updated on what is happening across sectors.  I wasn't particularly inspired to innovate, but nuggets of practice to improve what we are currently doing in our workbook designs and workflows.  I had a couple lovely one to one catch ups with and Sarah Copeland and Lisa Gray.
